Gord and I and friends are on the One Year Diet. It’s been proven that all diets work. It’s also proven that 85% of dieters regain the weight they lose, with almost half of same dieters growing heavier than they were before dieting.
We’re keeping it simple, like it was when we were young. Back when most people were slim and hardly anyone dieted. We don’t worry about weight. Our goal is to live healthily. Weight is a side effect of healthy living. The weight will follow. Oh and we don’t count calories.
The three pillars of health at the crux of the one year diet:
- FOOD: Make your own food. Cut out the processed.
- FITNESS: Move your body a little every day. Thirty minutes is the goal.
- PEOPLE: Keep good people in your life. Your people affect your health.
Do you remember the fable of the hare and tortoise. Both were trying to reach the same finish line. Well the rabbit sprinted out of the gates and the tortoise plodded along step by step. After a minute the rabbit was far ahead and out of sight. Can you imagine how bleak the tortoise’s prospects would have felt if he had compared himself to the speedy rabbit? Did he stop and tell himself not to bother, that he would never reach his destination? Nope. He continued on his personal journey. He kept moving. The hare looked back at the tortoise and laughed and laughed so hard he felt tired. “Man that tortoise is hopeless”, he said. I’ll just lie down here and take a little nap. There’ll be plenty of time to sprint to the finish line later. The tortoise kept moving. There were no cheering crowds but he believed in his path and he kept putting one foot in front of the other, day by day. After a while the hare woke up. He stretched and yawned and said, “Where was I at? Ah yes a quick sprint to the finish line to wait for Tortoise.” The hare ran as hard as he could but when he got to the finish line he found that the tortoise had long since passed him by.
