Week 2 – January 31, 2014
“Your Story”, our Friday Series, is following Ty, a 26-year-old guy who’s losing 30 pounds over 5 months.
Ty is trying to get to the point where healthy living is a habit. It’s been 2 weeks now and Ty is already noticing a difference in how his clothes fit.
How Ty stays motivated:
Ty keeps to his gym days by reminding himself “how good I feel”. If he misses a day he makes sure to go the next day. Otherwise “before you know it, it’s been 3 or 4 days and the motivation is gone.” He’s careful not to “fall into the trap of telling yourself, ‘I won’t go this day and I will go next day’. That’s setting yourself up for failure.”
Ty now has breakfast and makes time for meal breaks most days. This keeps him from getting so hungry that he overeats. He’s turning his restaurant job from a disadvantage into an advantage. There are always fresh, cut veggies to snack on.
Ty loves Oreos. He’ll eat an Oreo McFlurry (“When it’s gone it’s gone.”) every few weeks instead of keeping a whole bag of cookies on hand.
STILL WORKING ON
“Relaxing after work” by going out with co-workers for high-cal food and beer. This happens especially on frustrating days. (You’d be surprised at how shamefully some customers treat restaurant workers. For 20 bucks anyone can be a bad boss for an hour.)
Attitude – “Realistically I won’t be as religious as I am right now” after the 5 months are over. Ty is building a healthful lifestyle that suits his goals and personality. He’s not on a “diet” that ends and afterwards he goes back to that what brung’m here in the first place.
YOU next year Principle
Eat breakfast! On days when people skip breakfast, they eat more overall during the day.
What nicer thing can you do for somebody than make them breakfast?
